This statement is true for almost all vineyard managers, and Japan is no exception.
Vineyard work is very rewarding, a real sense of accomplishment accompanies the end of the day when you can see how much work youfve done. If you would like to feel a wonderful sense of accomplishment then please continue reading about how to get involved.
Harvest is the busiest time of the year in the vineyard. The fruit is ripe and must be picked. In Japan this normally occurs in the first few weeks of October. As part of the Koshu project we have contracted some vineyards and will need to pick the fruit to be taken to winery when it is ready. This will involve traveling to the Katsunuma area in the Yamanashi prefecture. Harvesting the fruit is particularly rewarding as there is a real sense of close involvement - when you next drink the Denis Dubourdieu Koshu you could say (I picked the grapes that made this).
Millesimes will offer transport from Tokyo and lunch during the day (perhaps accompanied by a glass of Koshu).
To be at the birth of a vineyard is very special, most vineyard managers actually think of the vines as their children. Essentially all the vines must be planted during the dormant period of either autumn or spring. In full
winter the soil is too difficult to cultivate. For anyone who is interested in gardening this would be a great experience and a further site tour with explanations on how to grow vines will be offered as well.

Please stay posted for more accurate dates on which you could get involved and donft hesitate to contact us if you have any queries about getting involved in the Koshu Project at info@koshu.org
